Safety Precautions at Keeler School

Good Afternoon Keeler Families, Safety Precautions at Keeler School The safety of all students and staff at Keeler School is of great importance. As such, we have established appropriate safety measures for the various situations that may occur and affect our staff and students. Fire drills are a long-standing expectation of everyone who congregates in a setting such as a school. We are required to have a minimum of six fire drills each school year. Teachers keep class lists with them during all drills and attendance is always taken. Parents or other visitors are expected to evacuate the building when the fire alarm is sounded. It is a reflection of the changes in our society that we must add variations to our safety drills. Today, February 25, 2020 we practiced a drill known as a "lockdown". The teachers instructed students of their role during a drill of this kind. All students were prepared and understood that this was a practice. No one is allowed to enter or leave the bu...

In Math last week, students in Ms. Rahal’s class constructed 3-D shapes and began comparing the differences between each of the objects.  In both classes, students chose 2 3-D shapes and described how they were the same or different.  Next week, students will spend more time comparing various 3-D shapes and will make a video on the similarities or differences of the 2 shapes they have decided to explore.  For their math centers, both classes were introduced to 2 new games to further their understanding of 3-D shapes.  For the first, students use clues described in the game to identify a shape.  For the second, students must play a game of "I Spy" where they spot objects around the room and identify their shape. In Social Studies , both Grade 2 classes are going on a pretend trip to Meteghan, Nova Scotia!  Each student has created a travel journal to document this adventure.  For their first journal entry, students used the knowledge that...
