Dear Parents, 

We would like to inform you that our wonderful administrative secretary Jennifer Ashe (Woznow) will be leaving us on Maternity leave as of January 31, 2020. We are so excited for her and will miss her dearly!

We are also very excited to welcome Natasha Bailey to our Keeler School family on February 3, 2020. Ms. Bailey will be in and out of the office for the last few Fridays in January to help prep for the transition. Wishing Ms. Woznow all the best!, and a very warm welcome to Ms. Bailey!

Learning Update

In Math last week, students in Ms. Rahal’s class constructed 3-D shapes and began comparing the differences between each of the objects.  In both classes, students chose 2 3-D shapes and described how they were the same or different.  Next week, students will spend more time comparing various 3-D shapes and will make a video on the similarities or differences of the 2 shapes they have decided to explore.  For their math centers, both classes were introduced to 2 new games to further their understanding of 3-D shapes.  For the first, students use clues described in the game to identify a shape.  For the second, students must play a game of "I Spy" where they spot objects around the room and identify their shape. In Social Studies , both Grade 2 classes are going on a pretend trip to Meteghan, Nova Scotia!  Each student has created a travel journal to document this adventure.  For their first journal entry, students used the knowledge that...

Fantastic Fall Break/Learning Update

Hello Grade 2 Families, We hope that your fall break has been wonderful and restful.  As we (Ms. McGill & Ms. Rahal) think about next week, we want to update you on all the wonderful learning from the past 2 weeks and what will be coming after the break! By the end of last week your child should have been able to: Math:  Identify how many tens and ones there are in a given number, and represent that number in various ways.  For example...  Pictorally: Represent a number using the new strategy we learned (see image).  The purpose of this new strategy is to allow students to complete this task more efficiently. Concretely: Represent a number using the tens and ones blocks.  We found that most of our students needed practice counting by tens.  The tens blocks help with this because the students can pick one up and see that it has ten as they count!
