Hello Grade 2 Families, We hope that your fall break has been wonderful and restful. As we (Ms. McGill & Ms. Rahal) think about next week, we want to update you on all the wonderful learning from the past 2 weeks and what will be coming after the break! By the end of last week your child should have been able to: Math: Identify how many tens and ones there are in a given number, and represent that number in various ways. For example... Pictorally: Represent a number using the new strategy we learned (see image). The purpose of this new strategy is to allow students to complete this task more efficiently. Concretely: Represent a number using the tens and ones blocks. We found that most of our students needed practice counting by tens. The tens blocks help with this because the students can pick one up and see that it has ten as they count! Hello Grade 2 Families, The past few weeks have been busy! In Science , students performed an experiment where they answered the question: "What is the coldest place inside the school?" We travelled around to different areas, and used a thermometer to measure the temperature. We learned that the coldest place inside the school is inside the lunchroom freezer. We have been doing more preparation work for our Meteghan trip! (Social Studies) Each class decided on a route to Meteghan, using prior knowledge from our research project last month. Ms. McGill's class will be flying to St. John's, taking the ferry to Digby, Nova Scotia, and then a bus to Meteghan. Now, we are making a packing list. Math : Following the activity where we made videos describing and comparing our favorite 3-Dimensional shapes, we began to study 2-Dimensional shapes. Goals for the students in Ms. McGill's class were that by the end of the week, they would be able say, "I can descr...
